Investment Fraud
The law firm of ChapmanAlbin LLC is investigating and preparing to file claims on behalf of victims of financial misconduct by Grayson Dent of Dacula, Georgia, as well his company GME Investments Group LLC and the international brokerage firm E*Trade.
Attorneys at ChapmanAlbin are investigating the investment activities of Grayson Dent, and GME Investments Group LLC over allegations of financial misconduct including allegations of “selling away”. Selling away occurs when a financial professional sells securities that are not offered or approved by their employing firm. Grayson Dent worked as a Certified Public Accountant with the accounting firm Thigpen, Jones, Seaton & Co., P.C. He allegedly preyed on the relationships he built in this role to perpetrate his scheme. Upon information and belief, Grayson Dent had individuals entrust money to him to trade. Grayson Dent then created numerous fake investments and, in total, stole or incurred trading losses in an amount over $25 million dollars during a 6-year period.
Grayson Dent has never been registered as a stockbroker or an investment advisor. He has never been qualified, or authorized by law, to invest money on behalf of others. According to reports, Grayson Dent set up GME Investments Group LLC and told potential investors that he could keep their money safe and invest it profitably. If these reports are true, Grayson Dent broke a number of securities laws. What’s more: it’s not clear today what Grayson Dent has done with the money that was entrusted to him to invest, but what is clear is that significant financial losses were incurred.
Upon information and belief, Grayson Dent relied on the international brokerage firm E*Trade to perpetrate his misconduct. E*Trade is a FINRA-member broker-dealer firm and is a “gatekeeper” to the financial markets. E*Trade has a duty to monitor the activities in its customer accounts, including the activities of Grayson Dent, in order to ensure that no laws were being broken. E*Trade is also obligated to review and halt any suspicious transactions in any E*Trade accounts. E*Trade failed to abide by its regulatory requirements in detecting and preventing these alleged violations of securities laws.
