Unauthorized Trading

FINRA has barred former LPL Financial broker Derek Copeland after an investigation revealed he engaged in unauthorized private securities transactions. Copeland, who was registered with LPL Financial in Oklahoma City, OK, from 2016 to 2023, allegedly sold 74 private securities transactions totaling over $3.9 million without obtaining approval from LPL Financial.

According to FINRA, Copeland violated FINRA Rule 3280 and Rule 2010 by failing to disclose these transactions, which involved private investments outside the firm. His actions resulted in his permanent bar from associating with any FINRA member firm in any capacity after he declined to cooperate with FINRA’s investigation.
