Unsuitable Recommendations

ChapmanAlbin is investigating former General Securities Representative Christopher J. Shaw, recently sanctioned by FINRA for allegedly making unsuitable investment recommendations. According to FINRA, Shaw recommended and sold alternative investments in GPB Capital Holdings to five clients between 2016 and 2017, even though these investments were unsuitable given their risk tolerance, financial profile, and lack of accreditation.

FINRA’s findings indicate that Shaw recommended GPB Capital’s limited partnership interests—high-risk, illiquid investments—to retirees and individuals with moderate risk tolerance, leading to inappropriate concentrations of these assets in their portfolios. Shaw has been suspended for three months, fined $5,000, and ordered to pay restitution of $16,357.60 to an affected client.
