SEC Charges Filed
The SEC charged Donald Anthony Wright and his company, Retirement Specialty Group, with defrauding Christian clients through a “faith-based” investment approach. From June 2021 to July 2023, Wright sold over $2 million in fraudulent promissory notes to clients, falsely claiming the notes were secured by real estate, safer than stock market investments, and that he personally invested in them. Wright allegedly misappropriated the funds for personal use, lied about repayment, and created fake promissory notes. The SEC’s complaint, filed in Tennessee, accuses Wright of multiple securities law violations. Wright and his firm consented to permanent injunctions, including an officer-and-director bar, with financial penalties to be determined later. The case is part of the SEC’s Atlanta Area Affinity Fraud Initiative.
